Your 2021 December Lowveld Bucket List

Your 2021 December Lowveld Bucket List

Do you feel that? We are painfully close to the end of the year, and since the end of this year is shaping up to be much like the last (hello travel bans), this is the perfect opportunity to again support the local tourism industry, while also getting to explore everything that our lovely local community has to offer.

The Lowveld is spectacular. Are we biased? Of course. But when you visit the Lowveld in the summer months, you will see just why we use spectacular as the word to describe our beautiful part of the world. Beyond the beauty you will come across when travelling through our area, there is just so much to do here, and it won’t eat up your holiday budget.

A quick little bit of housekeeping before we get into things. If the Lowveld is your holiday destination, then you should think about making Nelspruit Lodge your preferred place to stay. Why? Because we have everything that you need in order to make your holiday both a relaxed experience as well as something that you will remember for years to come. We are also in a fantastic central location which means we can really be your home away from home while you are exploring all of the great activities that you can do while here. And finally, there is that price. We are affordable accommodation in Nelspruit.

Our Bucket List Suggestions

To get a real taste of what our corner of the world has to offer, this is what we suggest you add to your 2021 Lowveld Adventure!

  1. Fishing at Silwer Rots
The Lowveld is an outdoorsy destination, and when you spot our rolling hills and gorgeous greenery, you can easily see why. So, one of the things we suggest you do here is a spot of fishing at Silwer Rots, a beautiful location out on the Uitkyk Road (we’ll help you find it on a map). And if fishing is not your jam, don’t worry, you can always instead go there and enjoy a picnic or a bite to eat at the bar.
  1. Hiking at Tomjachu
A bush retreat that offers so much outdoor fun, at a really small fee (but you will have to make a reservation), Tomjachu is a great place to go hiking, enjoy a picnic, or even go on a real life safari. The retreat is home to all sorts of wildlife, which makes any time you spend here incredibly special. There is also the occasional sky gazing workshop hosted here, but to take part in that you will have to check what they have available.
  2. Dinner at The Jock
Honestly, a Nelspruit staple, if you have been to the town before and you have not visited The Jock, you are missing out! Quite inexpensive (considering the current climate) and offering some delicious food, an evening spent here means you are supporting local while also really indulging your taste buds.
5 Things you should do when Staying in a Hotel

5 Things you should do when Staying in a Hotel

Just because you are on holiday does not mean that it is time to throw your manners away. When you are staying in a hotel, there are some things that you should do, and there are plenty of things that you should avoid doing, in order to make your stay, and the stay of your fellow guests as pleasant as possible.

Nelspruit Lodge is a stunning place to escape for a holiday. Whether you choose our accommodation in Nelspruit for your quick weekend getaway, or if you are planning on spending your yearly family holiday with us, you are making a great decision. Not only is your time spent with us relaxing and super comfortable, but we also ensure privacy when you choose to stay with us.

Whether it is your first time at a lodge in Nelspruit or the 50th, when you stay in such accommodation it is important to have some kind of lodge etiquette in mind. These are just 5 things that you should do when you are staying in a hotel.

  1. Keep the noise down
Even when you are staying in a hotel that promises peace and privacy, you are technically still sharing a space. With this in mind, you can imagine how unpleasant it can be for other guests if you are up late making a noise, or if you are up before the crack of dawn and kicking up a storm. While there might be some cases when you can’t control the noise you make (think about travelling with excited children and babies), you should always consider just how much noise you make when staying at a hotel.
  1. Be kind to staff
The staff at a hotel play a very special role in making sure that your stay is peaceful and pleasant. So it simply doesn’t do to be rude to hotel staff, no matter how frustrated you might be feeling. Even if you have a complaint, you should be sure to handle it in a polite and professional manner.
  1. Respect the hotel property
Every part of the hotel, from the telephones to the bedding, is hotel property that you should never damage. You should always treat whatever is in the hotel room as though it is your own which means being very careful with whatever you use. Remember, if you damage property, you could end up literally paying for it.
  1. Hang up towels
Often towels will be replaced on a daily basis, but this is really unnecessary if you make sure that you hang up the towels after each use so that they can dry out. When you choose to hang up your towels each day, you also won’t be wasting energy, which can then make your stay more eco-friendly.
  2. Check in and out at the right time
You should never rush the hotel staff to check you in early and you should never check out late either. When you try to check in early or if you check out late, you will be making the life of the hotel staff more difficult than it would otherwise need to be.
The 5 Accommodation Features Every Business Traveller Needs

The 5 Accommodation Features Every Business Traveller Needs

Whether you are living on the road or if you are only an occasional business traveller, having accommodation that is suited to your needs is a must. And when selecting your Nelspruit accommodation, you need to make sure that you are staying in the right place.

At Nelspruit Lodge, we have become one of our city’s top business accommodation facilities. We cater to business people of all types, ensuring that they have everything they need in order to have a successful time while in the city.

Given our experience when it comes to accommodating guests, we have identified the 6 most common features that every business person should look for.

  1. Location
To get to meetings on time or to be on the project site when you are needed, you need to book your accommodation according to the location. Centrally located accommodation is vital because it makes it easier for you to get around, especially if you are staying in a town that you are not familiar with. When you are in a good location, you won’t have to travel very far to get to where you are needed and you will also be closer to certain amenities like restaurants and shops.
  1. An Office away from your Office
Business travellers still need a place to work and since you are already booking accommodation, why not make sure that the place you are staying in also has what you need in order to turn it into an office. While you are looking for the perfect business accommodation in Nelspruit, make sure that you have access to a landline and to Wi-Fi, or internet of some kind.
  1. Affordable Costs
Business travellers will generally be travelling on a budget. When selecting your accommodation make sure that you have taken price into account. But don’t just choose the cheapest accommodation that you can find.Make sure that the price you are paying out for accommodation is worth it in terms of what you will be getting out of it.There is no point going for cheap accommodation only for it to end up having no web connections, a lumpy mattress and ice cold food! Scout out your accommodation and what the price includes well before you make your booking.
  1. Bed and Breakfast
Or bed, breakfast and dinner. When you are selecting your accommodation, having a meal or two included in the price can make your stay a more pleasant one. Having breakfasts and dinners, and also certain conveniences like coffee close at hand, means you won’t be running around looking for food when you are in a hurry to be somewhere else.
  2. Laundry Service
Depending on how long you are going to be in town on business, at some point you are going to need fresh, clean clothes. Make sure that the accommodation you choose either has on site laundry services or a nearby Laundromat, where you can drop off your clothing in the morning and collecting it again in the afternoon.

What to do on your holiday?

If you are not yet sure where you can go and what the best things to do are, in this blog we are going to share some of the must see places and experiences.

The Barberton area, with its rich history and exemplary geological wonders, is the perfect starting point. The town is just a 30 minute scenic drive from nearby Nelspruit, and there is plenty to do here. Ideally, you should start at the Barberton Makhonjwa Mountainland. This is a World Heritage Site and it has various rock structures which date back some 3.5 billion years. The best way to see the area is to visit the geotrail. On this easy to navigate route, which can be travelled in any kind of vehicle, you will have a real view of what the world looked like before the time of the dinosaurs. And the spectacular rocks found here are only found in one other place in the world!

Pilgrim’s Rest is another off the beaten track place worth visiting. This ancient town still has the homes and buildings that were built during the gold rush era, although most have now been transformed into shops and restaurants.

Close to Pilgrim’s Rest is another must-visit place, Graskop. During the lockdown, this small town, which relies heavily on tourism, was severely rocked and now that we can travel again, making a turn here won’t only be a fantastic holiday experience, it will be directly helping the local economy get back on its feet. While here, make sure you visit The Graskop Gorge Lift. The only one of its kind in Mpumalanga, the lift is designed to take tourists to the bottom of the gorge and into the natural forest below. Visitors walk the wooden walkways and the suspension bridge as they make their way through the woods.

Other Notable Attractions

  • The Kruger National Park. Since it is a mere 45 or so minutes away, a day trip into the world’s oldest conservation effort, especially if you haven’t been there before is a must.
  • Adam’s Calendar. Up above Nelspruit lies the village of Kaapsehoop. Home to the wild horses, this place is also where you will see what is considered to be one of the oldest man-made structures on earth, known as Adam’s Calendar.
  • Okay, it’s not all that close to Nelspruit, but it is well-worth the visit. Chrissiesmeer is South Africa’s version of the Lake District and its beautiful attractions make it the perfect getaway.
Lodge Hygiene Habits – How to Stay Safe

Lodge Hygiene Habits – How to Stay Safe

There is one aspect of running a lodge that cannot ever be skimped over or not taken seriously, and that is hygiene.

We have an immaculately clean lodge with a wide selection of rooms that are thoroughly and regularly given the complete once over.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have become even more dedicated to ensuring that our hygiene practices remain as thorough as possible, and by introducing new measures.

And there are quite a few things that you can do to, in order to make sure that you stay safe and healthy during these strange and uncertain times.

Healthy Hygiene Habits to Adopt

According to one of the world’s leading travel brains, Fodors, these are some of the most useful things you can do to improve your hygiene habits while you are travelling.

  1. Use alcohol based wet wipes. These can be used for all sorts of things, like wiping down light switches, remote controls, door handles, phones, and anything else that you think has perhaps not recently been given a clean.
  2. Have a look at the bathroom. Although most reputable hotels and lodges (those that have been given a great number of excellent reviews) will have scrubbed their bathrooms, it doesn’t hurt to give the bathroom a closer look when you enter your room.
  3. Check your duvet. If it looks like it has been used, or if you think that it is not clean, you can always request a new one. Don’t be shy to ask.
  4. Bring along your own slippers. Regardless of what type of flooring the room has, you should always have your own slippers which you can wrap up in a bag when you are headed home, so that they don’t spread any germs that they might have picked up along the way.
  5. Wash the glasses. Any glasses in your room, and let’s be honest, most accommodation, whether it is in Nelspruit or Paris, will have a drinking glass or two, should be rinsed with soapy water before you use them.

Nelspruit Lodge is taking COVID-19 seriously and as such we have implemented a whole lot of new safety measures to make sure that our guests stay healthy while with us.

We are open to the public as we are recognised by the appropriate authorities as an essential service. And in line with the rules and regulations laid out for companies to operate in the current climate, we have the following measures in place:

  • Screening upon check in
  • A COVID-19 Combatter Sanitizer which you can walk through and become thoroughly sanitised.
  • Sanitizer at every door and entrance, for guests to use.
  • Self-catering units for those guests who are not keen on sharing a dining space.
  • Sanitized taxi services for those guests who require transport.

All of our staff lookout for guests as well as one another and are screened on a daily basis for the symptoms of COVID-19.  Rooms are also sanitized on a daily basis to ensure that they are free of potential pathogens.

We are committed to providing you with a safe stay. Book your self-catering room today.
